Gaseous natural gas that has been treated to remove specific components—usually to the point where it contains 90 percent or more methane—and then cooled to the point of liquefaction is known as liquefied natural gas, or LNG as its name suggests. The finished product is colorless, non-corrosive, non-toxic, and odorless. It also occupies roughly 1/600th of the space that the same amount of gaseous natural gas would, making it far denser than natural gas. LNG is significantly more efficient to transport and store than conventional natural gas due to its significant volume reduction.
